Every year we bring together a panel of internationally renowned experts from around the globe.

Dr. Homayoun Zadeh, DDS, PhD

Symposium Chair

Dr. Zadeh is Associate Professor and Director of the post-doctoral periodontology program at the University of Southern California and a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. Dr. Zadeh directs the Laboratory for Immunoregulation and Tissue Engineering (LITE) at USC, dedicated to studying basic mechanisms to regulate bone and tissue regeneration / destruction under health/disease states, as well as conducting clinical trials of dental implant outcomes. His clinical research interests involve studies on minimally-invasive surgery and tissue engineering. He maintains a part-time private practice limited to Periodontology and Implants in Southern California.

Hands-On Cavader Workshop: VISTA: An approach for soft tissue and bone augmentation of teeth and implants

Bone has long been considered the critical tissue for support and long-term health of teeth and implant. Periodontal and peri-implant soft tissues have frequently been regarded to be important for esthetics. However, recent evidence has demonstrated the significance of the quantity and quality of periodontal and peri-implant mucosa for the long-term health of periodontal and peri-implant tissues.  The “vestibular incision subperiosteal tunnel access” (VISTA) is particularly well-suited technique for periodontal and peri-implant soft tissue and bone augmentation. The comprehensive hands-on cadaver workshop will provide participants with practical experience with the complete protocol for periodontal and peri-implant soft tissue and bone augmentation.

  • The significance of periodontal and peri-implant soft tissue biotype and keratinized mucosa.
  • Various techniques for peri-implant soft tissue augmentation, including advantages and disadvantages of each: free gingival graft, connective tissue graft, Vascularized Inter-Positional (VIP) pedicle graft, Coronally Advanced Flap (CAF), Intra-sulcular tunneling, VISTA.
  • Various graft material: Autogenous donor tissue (epithelialized graft, Subepithelial Connective Tissue Graft (Palatal donor sites, Tuberosity), Acellular Dermal Matrix (ADM), Native xenogenic Collagen Matrix (N-XCM), Form-stable XCM, Leukocyte Platelet Rich Fibrin (L-PRF).
  • The steps-by-step protocol required for autogenous connective tissue harvesting from different sites for periodontal and peri-implant soft tissue augmentation using VISTA.
  • Application of VISTA for GTR, GBR and pontic site contour development
